While I've got you here, I'd love to tell you about some of our monumental goals and how you can help get us there. The ultimate goal for Bold Threads is to use proceeds from each purchase to fund and BUILD an organization that is a resource and tool for women who are interested in STEM. We want this organization to help women get on their dream path of excelling in STEM education and/or a career in STEM.A little background about the founder...
Growing up, I learned pretty quickly what it meant to have a strong work ethic, excel in school, and ultimately have a successful profession. However, I also remember not being exposed to the range of options that were available in the professional world. Maybe it was the media, maybe it was the school system, but I always thought there were a limited amount of career paths that I could take.
After going to college to study art and eventually switching to a social sciences major, I struggled with understanding just what I could do with my skillset. I was very into art but assumed there weren't job opportunities in this space, so I switched to Environmental Studies. After graduating I felt very lost and insecure about my future. It wasn't until a couple years later that I stumbled upon something I never even considered to be of interest...web development and design.
Growing up in silicon beach and living in silicon valley, I was fascinated with tech trends, but figured that being in tech was only for certain kinds of people. When I discovered my talent and love for web/app design and development I felt like a million doors had just opened for me. I soon became fascinated with practicing and exploring my new found love at the intersection of tech and art.
Now, having a growing business in web design, I can't help but wonder how much further I would be if I was introduced to this possibility at a younger age. Having a career in tech was never even a consideration growing up. I'd like to change this. I want more young women to be exposed to not just Tech, but sciences, engineering, mathematics and business as an option for their future.
